With a New Year
upon us and a new team on the pitch, the air in Bangalow was filled anticipation
and expectation. Amid soggy fields after recent rain, the Bangalow Beagles
reigned supreme. Our first game against the Byron Bay Wildcats soon turned into
a one sided affair with a high pressure system situated inside our forward zone.
This system produced a torrential downpour of goals in Bangalow’s half and a
drought in Byron’s zone. With a crack of thunder, the lightning quick Monsoonal
Milo produced goal after goal that sent the Byron team running for cover.
However as much as they tried to weather the storm they just couldn’t, as Milo
continued fill the goals with soccer ball sized hail stones. Not to be outdone,
fellow second year player Gabe decided he would add to Byron’s gloomy outlook.
Showing no signs of a summer vacation, Global Warming Gabe found himself
comfortably situated just off the coast of the goal mouth and entered
(literally) that Gulf on numerous occasions. However the biggest surprise
occurred with the introduction of the new playing phenomenon La Lola. Just like
her predecessors La Nina and El Nino, La Lola guarantees the increased
probability of dire conditions as she too filled the catchment area with goals.
A real revelation and fantastic off season signing, Lola has impressed everyone
with her start to the season. The signs are looking ominous for opposition teams
with the opening of a goal kicking floodgate looming on the horizon for this
player. The only salvation for Byron came with the sound of the siren, and after
the post match mop up the goal gauge overflowed in Bangalow’s favour.
If the Byron
Bay Cougars were looking for more favourable conditions in Game two, they were
sorely mistaken. An increase in pressure from Barometer Billy showed encouraging
signs for another Bangalow victory. Billy is another player who has impressed
and his quiet, methodical approach to the game has been a ray of sunshine for
the coaching department. Billy missed the goals on several occasions by
millimetres; however the prediction is that this pattern will not last, and he
too will soon overshadow the goals. Byron threatened to change the tide, but
this was soon halted by Cold Front Callum who turned them away with devastating
results. Callum ensured the boundary between our defence and offence was filled
with a mass of cold dense air and he would blow the ball into our forward zone
with a frosty whoosh! Callum was competently assisted by Katabatic Keelin who
also chilled the Byron forward slopes with a cooling breeze. Just like the
Fremantle Doctor Keelin was always to be found covering his teammates right
shoulder. These two young players have settled well into the outfit and the
probabilistic forecast is looking radiant. Again the score line showed
widespread goals in the Bangalow column and only an isolated goal for Byron.
With the
prospect of a steady goal pour looking like a real prospect for this team, the
drought is sure to continue for opposition teams with a prolonged absence of
goals looking more than likely.
Well done all,
now back to you Brian…. |
